Encore Help
What is Encore?
With just one “Google-like” click, Encore, the keyword searching tool for the Colgate University Libraries' Catalog, displays results in an easy-to-use faceted format with additional suggestions for finding similar relevant items, tag clouds, recently added materials on your topic and books available through ConnectNY.
Will Encore search the same resources as the classic catalog?
Yes, it searches the same resources. Some more advanced search features such as browsing by author, title and subject and searching by call number are only available in the Library's Classic Catalog at this time. Encore can make it easier to limit searches by format of material or date of publication but might not be as precise.
How do I search Encore?
- The terms in the search box are "AND"ed together
- The search operator "OR" is not supported
- To do a phrase search - enclose the "phrase in quotes"
- To get variant forms, an * at the end of a word (e.g. israel* will search Israel, Israeli, or Israelis)
- To exclude a term - use a minus before the term e.g. -war
- Do not use parentheses - they do not work
Limits (narrow my search)
- Refining the search by selecting facets in the left column or subjects in the tag cloud (right column) always searches within the current results set.
-

At any time, remove a restriction by clicking on the red X next to the term
