Isaac Kellogg Brownson was born in Peterboro, New York on July 6, 1810, and attended preparatory school at Hamilton Academy. He graduated from Hamilton Literary and Theological Institution with the college class of 1838. He was ordained in Peterboro on August 26, 1838, and was a missionary in Circleville, Ohio, Frankfort, Bethany, and Rockville from 1838-1840. He was a pastor in Greenfield from 1840-1844; Hillsboro from 1844-1847; New Woodstock from 1847-1850; Saline, Michigan from 1850-1852; Chittenango from 1852-1854; Greenfield, Ohio and Frankfurt from 1854-1861; and Georgetown and Sherburne from 1861-1864. He was a resident of New Woodstock from 1864-1871 and Fayetteville from 1871-1899. He died in Fayetteville on January 28, 1899.

Scope and Contents
This collection contains a diary that covers part of Brownson's time as a student at Hamilton Literary and Theological Seminary. It also includes essays, poems, and notes on Christian theology written over the course of his life.
