Biographical Note

Reverend Hinton Summerfield Lloyd was born in New York on January 7, 1833. He graduated from Madison University in 1856, and the Seminary in 1858. After his ordination in Johnstown on December 9, 1858, he served as a missionary pastor (1858-1859) and as pastor to several New York congregations, including Peekskill (1859-1861), Waterford (1861-1863), Port Jervis (1865-1869), and Waverly (1869-1877). From 1863-1865 he was Chaplain of the 16th New York Cavalry, United State Army.

On August 20, 1858 Lloyd married Eliza M. Carr of Salisbury, New York. He later married Sara Agnes Worden, former instructor in art at Mount Holyoke, on June 18, 1903

Lloyd held various positions within the Baptist Education Society of the State of New York from 1877 until his retirement in 1915, and also served as a lecturer at the Seminary during the latter part of this period. His alma mater awarded him an honorary Doctor of Divinity in 1880. He died in St. Petersburg, Florida on February 21, 1918.
