Hascall Hall

Biographical/Historical note

Hascall Hall was built in 1884 as a new laboratory for the Science department and came to be referred to as the Biology Building. The architect was C.B. Cutler from Troy, NY. The building was expanded and doubled in size in 1906. In the late 1960s, the administration attempted to raze the building and replace it with the Olin Life Science Building (to be built adjacent). Instead, the friends of the “Old Bio” building petitioned to save the building and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The building was renovated in 1978 and renamed Hascall Hall after Daniel Hascall, one of the original 13 founders of Colgate. Hascall Hall became the home of the Philosophy and Religion Department.
