Commercial Document Delivery Services for Colgate University Faculty

The following commercial document delivery and table of contents alerting services are provided for current Colgate Faculty. All you have to do is sign up for an account. See below for details.

Science Direct

This account code can be used to order articles from any of the Elsevier journals cancelled in 2007. Ask your liaison for a departmental account code to use when signing in.

To order an article from a journal we do not have access to.

1. Log on is in the upper right hand corner of the screen– note: both username and password are case sensitive.
2. Find an article of interest.
3. Check JOURNAL FINDER to see if we own the journal or have access to the journal in another full text database
4. Select PDF. Once you hit the continue button to display the PDF the library account will be charged.

To Create a search alert

1. Register with Science direct as an individual user
2. Define and run a search
3. Save the search as a "search alert."
4. Name the search

Ingenta Connect

Ingenta Connect offers a very large collection of academic and professional research articles online - some 23.5 million articles from 31,000 publications. A good many of these publications allow the purchase of the full text articles online. Overall more than 190 academic and professional publishers and all disciplines are represented. Articles from 1988 onwards are included, but coverage will vary with each publication. What journals are included? See the link off the main search page called "Browse publications"

How do I sign up for an account? Click the "need to register? " link on the right hand side of the first page. Choose a password and username and fill in all your details including your department's fax number. When finished, click on the submit button at the bottom of the page. It is that easy!  Once you have an account click on the "Manage my Ingenta" button to edit your personal details or add search alerts.

How do I activate the Email Alerting Service?

You can receive an email alert when a new issue of your favorite journal is added tot he database or when new articles are added on a sepcific subject..

1. Search for the journal by name
2. Bring up the full record if the journal is found
3. Click RSS for the latest issue. [right hand side of the page]
4. Type your email address and password for Bloglines or create a new Bloglines account.

Subject alerts can be created for saved searches

To save your search

1. Conduct a specific search
2. Select "Search History" [upper right hand section of the page]
3. Select "Current Search History"
4. Check the box next to your specific search
5. Select " save to a new folder" in the drop down menu. Then click GO
6. Name the folder.

To create a search alert

1. Select "Search History" [upper right hand section of the page]
2. Check the box next to your subject search.
3. Select "Create Alert" from the drop down box" and click GO
4. A new content added to the dataabse on this search term will be emailed to you.

How do I search?

After signing up for an account search the database by a variety of options including exact journal title, author, or keyword in title or abstract. You can also browse publications in a particular academic discipline. Boolean operators include: AND, OR, NOT an asterisk (*) can be used to truncate a search term. A brief entry for the citation will be displayed.  Click on the title of the article to get a more detailed display. 

How do I obtain an article

1. Find an article of interest.
2. Just below the abstract you will find information about accessing the article. You may request document delivery of the article if the system indicates it is "available for purchase".
3. Check JOURNAL FINDER to see if we own the journal or have access to the journal in another full text database

Choose from one of the following options if Colgate does not have access to the full text of the journal

1. Is the journal published by Elsevier? The transaction cost is less if you order directly from Elsevier. Follow the link from Ingenta to Science Direct.
2. Request the article through interlibrary loan. There is no cost to you and the cost to the library is frquently less expensive than through Ingenta.
3. Ingenta Connect accepts all major credit cards.
