Check out and return Reserves at the Circulation desk on level 3 of Case-Geyer or at the Circulation desk at the Cooley Science Library.
Check out a study room?
If you know when you are going to want a study room, you can reserve a space through EMS (no later than 3 days in advance). You'll need to bring your Gate card and check-out the key for the room at the Circulation desk on level 3 of Case-Geyer. If you're looking for group space right now, you can also check for an available room at the Circulation desk.
Check to see when my book is due?
Log in to "My Library Account" to check the due date on checked-out items.
Connect from off-campus?
You can find information on connecting from off-campus here.
Find audiobooks?
Case Library owns very few audiobooks. However, you can borrow books on
tape and CD as well as downloadable audiobooks from the Hamilton Public Library and other libraries in the Mid-York Library System.
Find a book?
On the library homepage, you can start a search of the Colgate library catalog by entering a search in the right-hand search box area, or on any library page you can click on the link to "Books & More" to get to the library catalog. Go here to get some tips for using the catalog.
Find a movie?
Movies (DVDs and VHS) are shelved in LASR. Look up a title in the library catalog, use our Video Browsing Guide, or check the new titles list. Once you've found what you want, request it from LASR.
Find a particular journal?
On the library homepage, choose Journal Finder from the tabs in the upper-right hand side. You can then use the pull-down menu to search by a Keyword, the Journal Title (all or part), or the ISSN.
Find new books?
You can check to see what new books the library has received in the last month by clicking on the link, right-hand side, of the library home page, to New: Books.
Find the Salmagundi?
The library owns a complete run of the Salmagundi which is housed in our Special Collections Department. We also keep an almost complete run in the open stacks. To see the record, do a Library Catalog Title search for Salmagundi. To check the stacks, the call number is LD1088 .S25, which is located on Level 4 of Case-Geyer.
Find out if material came in from Inter-Library Loan or ConnectNY?
You will get an email when material that you've requested from Inter-Library Loan or ConnectNY is available.
If you want to check the status of an Inter-Library Loan request, you can log in to your account, "My Inter-Library Loan", and choose View >> Outstanding Requests from the left-hand menu.
You can check the status of ConnectNY requests by logging into your library account as well.
Get a book that the library owns but is checked out?
If our copy is checked out, you should look for an available copy in ConnectNY first, then WorldCat, and request it through those services.
Get help from the Writing Center tutors?
The Writing Center has a satellite office located on Level 3 of Case-Geyer, rm 304. The satellite office has hours from 6-10PM, Sunday through Thursday during the semester. You can make a walk-in appointment, however, if you'd like to be sure that you'll get a consultation when you arrive, book an appointment through the Writing Center webpage.
Look up my library record?
To access your library record from the library homepage, choose the link to "My Library Account" in the "Library Services" box. If you are logged into the portal, you can access your account by going to the library tab and clicking the "My Library Account" button (on the right-hand side).
Make photocopies?
There are card-operated photocopiers located on levels 2 through 4 of Case-Geyer. If you do not have a Gate card, a card dispenser is located in rm 303, on level 3. A card costs a dollar, for which you get 8 copies.
Make color copies?
There is a color photocopier available for use located in rm 391 [level 3] of Case-Geyer. Color copies cost $1.00 per page.
Print from Blackboard?
When printing from Blackboard, the File>Print method will often fail because the browser sees the file as a separate window. If you are having trouble, try clicking on the file's printer icon, directly above the text that you want to print.
Register my laptop?
Per ITS, to register your MAC address: Go to Start>Run>Type cmd>When the black window opens type ipconfig/all>Your physical address is your MAC address, insert this number and letter combination in the portal under the Student Resources tab, find the MAC address channel.
Renew material I've checked out?
If the material is not overdue or is within the 7 day grace period, you can renew it online by logging into your library account. If you can no longer renew the material online, you have to bring it back to the library in person, check it in, then re-charge it back out again.
Request material through ConnectNY?
If you've found a book in our library catalog that is currently unavailable, click on the ConnectNY icon on the right-hand side to look for another copy in the ConnectNY network. Once you've found the material that you want, click the link to "Request this item" above the blue box in the center of the page. At the next page you'll select "Colgate Univ" from the pull down box then click "Submit above information." At the next screen, enter your name and the barcode located on the back of your Gate card and click submit.
Request material through Inter-Library Loan (ILL)?
Always check ConnectNY first for books that Colgate does not own or that are currently checked out.
You can start a new ILL request by clicking on the My Inter-Library Loan link on the Library homepage, located under Library Services. WorldCat, and other FirstSearch databases (like GeoBase and the AlternativePressIndex) have a link to our ILL. Once you've found a record for something you'd like to order, click on the link to MyLoan. You'll need to login to your ILL account and then the system will automatically populate the request form for you. The link to Colgate's MyLoan on the ArticleLinker pages acts in the same way.
Request a purchase?
The Colgate University Library endeavors to purchase materials that are relevant to student and employee work/research. As a Colgate student, staff or faculty member, if you would like us to add something to our collections, please use this directory to identifty and make a request to the right contact person.
Request an item from LASR?
Colgate library catalog records for items stored in LASR reflect the item location "LASR ____" and have a "Request this item" button in the location box. Click that button and supply your name on the next screen. If your request is successful, the item will be retrieved and delivered to the Circulation Desk for pick-up.
Scan a document?
There are 3 scanners located in Case-Geyer. 2 scanners are on level 3, one to each side of the reading room. The third scanner, set up to scan negatives, is located on the East side of level 5.
Send a fax?
The Libraries' fax machine is located on Level 5, near the service desk, on the side nearest to the cafe. There is also a fax machine available for student use in the O'Connor campus center (the Coop), downstairs, by the vending machines.
Use a call number?
A call number classifies material by subect and determines its location within the library. Call numbers* starting with A-HX are shelved on level two and call numbers starting with J-ZA are shelved on level four of Case-Geyer.
*Except call numbers starting with BF1-999, GB-GC, Q, R, S, T-TP which are shelved at the Cooley Science Library.
The numbers that follow the initial letter(s) give you the numerical location that the book can be found on the shelves.
Use a budget code for copying?
Faculty and those with permission to use departmental budget codes will find the copier that accepts budget codes is located on the west side of level two at Case-Geyer.
