Searching for a specific title

Reviewing titles marked for potential cancellation over 2 years

Select the Layout in on the left marked titles under faculty review - by subject by clicking on the drop down arrow and then highlighting that Layout

Layout selection

Click on the button with the subject you wish to review e.g. FIND ART

The database will search all those titles categorized as ART which are under review for potential cancellation and return a scrolling list of the results. Titles may be listed twice if they are received in paper and also in microform.

The numbers refer to notes on interpreting the record.

Record display

  1. The format of the serial
    1. Print or Primarily Print - the title is only available in print, primarily print is used when the publisher indicates there is an online component but it cannot be activated - e.g. titles with a restriction to only a single computer or which use username/password access.
    2. Online - the title is available online only
    3. Print + Online - the title is available in both formats
  2. Identity - indicates a major publisher or if it is part of a package
  3. Notes added by librarians during the preliminary review
    1. Click throughs refer to use statistics based not on full text views but by number of times users have selected the title in JournalFinder or ArticleLinker. This is less accurate than the full text views shown lower on the screen but can be used to affirm those statistics or provide some measure of use when statistics are not provided by the publisher.
  4. Review - this field is what triggers the title appearing on the under review list if YES. In some cases, cancellation can be postponed into the 2nd year (these have been marked by YES- Next Year).
  5. Online uses - full text views by year and by provider. We show uses from publisher subscriptions, aggregator databases, and archives (like JSTOR) to present a complete picture of how heavily the title is used.
    1. In this case Blackwell is the publisher of our paid subscription
    2. EBSCOhost counts use in Ebscohost databases such as Academic Search Premier. We have no control over the content provided by aggregators such as Ebscohost
  6. Online use is totaled and a cost per use is calculated for titles which are "online only" or "print + online".
  7. Print Use - print use recorded from check out and reshelve counts
    1. 3 years worth of data are recorded compared to 2 years of online to compensate for the traditional undercount of print use due to user reshelving
    2. Cost per use is calculated for titles which are "print" by summing the cost for 2 years and dividing by the 3 years total print use
  8. Total Cost, uses, and cost per use
    1. Adds up all the costs and all the use and calculates a cost per use. When cost is only available for one of the two years, the cost per use will likely be low. Reviewers should be aware of this and double the cost per use when it occurs.

Open Journal Finder (Blue Button). This will show all available holdings with dates for a given title.
