Assessing Information Literacy

The aspects of information literacy that are focused on in course activities and assignments should be assessed to provide students with valuable feedback they can use to improve the way they use information to learn. The First-Year Information Literacy Curriculum Goals developed by the librarians at Colgate offer guidelines for deciding what aspects of information literacy to focus on when working with first-year Colgate students. These elements should be reflected in the assessment rubric for course assignments.

Colgate librarians are available to consult on the development of information literacy assessments. To arrange a meeting contact Peter Rogers, Information Literacy and Social Science Librarian.
